Welcome to Peerly. Peerly is a real-time communication platform designed to help people discover and have spontaneous conversations with randomly matched users through audio, video, and text chat.

We are committed to protecting user privacy and minimizing the amount of information collected and retained by the platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information Peerly may process, why it is processed, how it is handled, and what choices users have.

1. What Peerly Collects

Peerly is designed to operate with minimal personal information. Depending on how you use the service, Peerly may temporarily process:

Account and session information

  • If authentication is not required, Peerly does not require you to provide your real name, email address, phone number, or social-media profile to start a conversation.
  • When you connect to Peerly, the system may generate a temporary session or connection identifier used to establish and manage your session.
  • These identifiers are intended to be temporary and are not designed to identify you personally.

Technical information

Our infrastructure may receive limited technical information required to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service, such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser and device information
  • Operating system
  • Connection timestamps
  • Network and WebRTC connection information
  • Error and diagnostic information

Some of this information may be generated automatically by hosting, networking, security, or infrastructure providers.

Communication data

  • Peerly provides real-time audio, video, and text communication.
  • For normal peer-to-peer WebRTC sessions, audio and video are designed to be transmitted directly between participants whenever network conditions permit.
  • Peerly does not intentionally record or permanently store your video or audio conversations as part of the normal service.
  • Text messages exchanged during a session are intended to be transient and are not designed to become a permanent chat history.

2. WebRTC and Peer-to-Peer Communication

Peerly uses WebRTC to establish real-time audio and video communication.

When a WebRTC connection is established, your browser may exchange network information required for connectivity, including IP addresses or network candidates.

Peerly may use STUN servers to help determine how your device can be reached over the network.

When a direct peer-to-peer connection cannot be established, a TURN relay may be used to transport encrypted WebRTC traffic between participants.

Important: Using Peerly therefore does not guarantee that your network information will remain hidden from the person with whom you are communicating. Users should never assume that anonymous video chat provides complete anonymity.

3. Information We Do Not Intentionally Store

Peerly is designed around ephemeral communication. Unless explicitly stated otherwise for a particular feature, Peerly does not intentionally maintain:

Permanent video recordings
Permanent audio recordings
Long-term chat histories
User profiles with personal identity
Contact lists
Social-media profiles
Conversation histories

Temporary technical information may still exist in server memory, application logs, infrastructure logs, or security systems for operational purposes.

4. Matchmaking and Session Information

To connect two users, Peerly may temporarily maintain information such as:

  • Connection identifiers
  • Matchmaking status
  • Room identifiers
  • Connection state
  • Session start and end events

This information is necessary for matchmaking and real-time signaling. Temporary session information may be deleted when the session ends or when it is no longer required by the service.

5. Signaling Server

Peerly uses a signaling service to help users establish WebRTC connections. The signaling layer may exchange technical connection information such as:

  • Session identifiers
  • Room identifiers
  • WebRTC offers and answers
  • ICE candidates
  • Connection state messages

The signaling service is used to establish communication and coordinate sessions. It is not intended to function as a permanent storage system for conversation content.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

Peerly may use browser storage technologies when required for functionality. These may include:

  • Essential session information
  • Interface preferences
  • Security-related information
  • Temporary connection state

Peerly does not intentionally use cookies to build a behavioral advertising profile of users.

7. Third-Party Services

Peerly may rely on third-party infrastructure providers for services such as:

  • Application hosting
  • WebSocket connectivity
  • Databases
  • Redis or other temporary data stores
  • STUN/TURN connectivity
  • Security and abuse prevention
  • Monitoring and error reporting

These providers may process technical information required to provide their services and may have their own privacy policies. Peerly does not control how independent third-party infrastructure providers process data outside Peerly's systems.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect Peerly and its infrastructure. These measures may include:

Encrypted HTTPS connections
Secure WebSocket connections
WebRTC encrypted media transport
Restricted server access
Temporary session identifiers
Rate limiting
Abuse prevention mechanisms
Infrastructure monitoring
Note: No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You should avoid sharing passwords, financial information, government identification numbers, precise location information, or other sensitive information with strangers.

9. User Responsibility

Although Peerly is designed to minimize persistent data storage, communication with another person is not automatically private. A person you communicate with may independently:

  • Take screenshots
  • Record your screen
  • Record audio or video using another device
  • Copy messages
  • Save information you voluntarily disclose

Peerly cannot prevent another participant from recording a conversation on their own device. Do not share information that you would not want another person to possess.

10. Children's Privacy

Peerly is not intended for unsupervised use by children. Users must meet the minimum age requirement applicable to the service and the laws of their jurisdiction.

Because Peerly enables random communication with strangers, parents and guardians should carefully consider whether the service is appropriate for minors.

If we become aware that a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable requirements, we may take steps to remove that information and restrict the associated account or session.

11. Data Retention

Our goal is to retain as little information as reasonably necessary. Temporary technical data may be retained for:

  • Operating the service
  • Preventing abuse
  • Detecting attacks
  • Troubleshooting failures
  • Maintaining infrastructure
  • Complying with legal obligations

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the system in which it is stored.

12. Abuse, Security, and Legal Requests

Peerly may preserve limited technical information when reasonably necessary to:
